Sonora Smart Dodd started the tradition of celebrating fathers day. On tenth June of 1910, the first fathers day was celebrated at YCMA, Washington. She wanted to celebrate fathers day in order to honor her father, veteran William Jackson Smart. He, a veteran, raised six children on his own. Before 1910, a few attempts were made to celebrate the same. But the successful one was in June 1910 and that started the annual tradition of celebrating fathers day and showing the love, care and gratitude that we have towards them.
